Profile & History

Dayasagar Hospital, a Charitable Trust Hospital located in Amravati, was established in the year 1986 and is owned and managed by the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC).

The Franciscan Clarist Congregation is an offshoot of the great missionary order started by St.Francis of Assisi in the 13th Century A.D. The Congregation started on 14th December 1888 at Changanacherry, Kerala. By 1960 the FCC which grew and flourished in the various dioceses of Kerala began to branch out into the mission areas of North India. The Congregation started its first mission station in North India in the Archdiocese of Agra in 1960 and abroad in Germany in 1976. Now FCC has 23 Provinces (13 in Kerala and 10 Outside Kerala) and 2 Regions. Sisters are engaged in various apostolic activities. A small seed which was sown in 1888 sprouted up and grew into a big tree dispersing its seeds not only in India but also in countries like Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, USA, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Papua New Guinea The sisters are engaged in health care, social upliftment programmes and education to create a Just Society in different capacities .

At the request of late Rev. Bishop Joseph Rosario M.S.F.S the then Bishop of Amravati who felt the need of a hospital for the poor and needy people of the area as well as the poor residents of the town itself who could not afford the costly treatment of the hospitals and clinics in the town, invited Franciscan Clarist Congregation to start a Hospital. Responding to the invitation a team of sisters came to Amravati to start a hospital. Diocese made available to the sisters a large-sized bungalow, called ‘HurricaneHall’,with a large compound attached to it. The sisters used half of the building for their residential purpose and the rest of the building was prepared to start a hospital and on 1stJanuary 1986 the 4 bedded Dayasagar Hospital was inaugurated by Dr Mudaliar, the senior most surgeon of the city & Mr Thomas a blind destitute of the Missionaries of Charity and blessed by Rt Rev. Bishop Joseph Rosario. Dr SrLissy Jose FCC MBBS MD is the first doctor and first Medical Superintendent of Dayasagar Hospital. The pioneer members of this hospital are Sr Silas, Sr Juliet, Dr SrLissy Jose and late SrVineeta.

Over the years, it has been gradually transformed into a 100 bedded hospital with large spacious Outpatient Departments and In-patient wards. Among our patients, 20 % of our patients are nomads, tribals and slum dwellers getting free treatment, 40% belong to the low-income strata and treated at a concessional rate and only 40% constitutes paying patients. Our hospital offers facilities at subsidized rates. We incessantly strive to bring quality medical care within the reach of the common people.

We are deeply committed to our Vision, Mission and Motto and we spread the Compassionate Love of Jesus Christ, the Divine Healer,to all without any distinction of caste, creed, religion or economic status. We are grateful to its many donors from India and abroad for their generous contributions towards translating our dream into a reality. Also we are obliged to respectable Sisters, Doctors, Staff, Clients, Government authorities and well-wishers who have enabled the hospital to provide preventive, promotive ,curative health care at affordable and cost effective way to the common people.
